How long should you wait after unprotected sex to have tests for STDs?

Yesterday my boyfriend and i had unprotected oral sex and want to get tested for STDs. I know we should have done beforehand, but we were extremely stupid and caught up in the moment-i know, a very poor excuse. But we want to get tested now. how long do we have to wait before we should get tested? I know for HIV it is 3 months, 6 months and a year. But for STDs such as chlamydia it is 2 weeks.

The one guy on your other question is stupid. Spitting “it” out has nothing to do with keeping yourself safe. He must be 17 or something & believe those stupid teenage myths. Any fluid to fluid contact (i.e. his nut in your mouth) regardless of how long it is in there can cause spread an std. Never trust anyone telling you that they are clean or haven’t ever had an std. Men will say whatever to get attention directed towards their penis. Also, don’t believe those allergic to condom stories. Don’t ever let them tell you it doesn’t feel as good to them with a condom on either. Would you rather it feel good for them & end up with a disease? Remember: Its better to be safe than sorry. No glove, no love. & Respect yourself, protect yourself.

If it was just oral sex, there’s no reason to worry about HIV.
The ones you were at risk for was herpes + other bacterial disease such as Chlamydia but the chance of contracting any STD from one time oral is very low.

Syphilis is very rare in USA and very very very rarely transmitted via oral sex. But, if you still can’t relax, you can get a reliable test result after 6 weeks.
You can get a reliable test result anytime after 3 days for NGU & other bacterial disease. For herpes, wait at least 12 weeks for a reliable test result.

you have no reason to worry about HIV for the exposure you described but if you wanted to, you can get tested at 6 weeks (95~99% detactable) & 3 month(conclusive).

ADDED: ORAL sex isn’t a risk for HIV.
There isn’t any documented case of HIV transmitting through oral sex.
It only happens theoriotically, far far away in fairyland.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t use protection, of course you still can contract other STD’s such as herpes + bacterial disease.
But if you made a mistake by not using a protection, you don’t have to fear about HIV because it doesn’t happen.

If you still want to argue, try finding a single case where a person contracted HIV just by oral sex.

    Listen to Kristen.

Toggi is right to a degree. HIV is transmittable through oral sex if the person you’re with is infected. Although its somewhat rare. If you are concerned about STDs then go and get yourself and your boyfriend tested for everything. After that, be more careful.

No one is condemning you. We just want you to be safe, okay? Next time you do oral, use flavored condoms and female condoms. Be safe. :)
