Wheelchair No More? Video of bionic legs’ first steps at launch in NZ

Author : Reviewer

A New Zealand company has invented a unique pair of bionic legs that is allowing a paraplegic to walk again, New Zealand television reported. The design is known as Rex, an abbreviation for ‘robotic exoskeleton’, and has been unveiled with the help of a test pilot Hayden Allen, paralysed from the chest down following a motorcycle accident five years ago. The first pair sold is expected to go for around 150000 US dollars, about the same price as 20 standard wheelchairs.

  3. topjonn says:

@mikelong411 you would need your legs to crawl, from the sound of it, you need a lot more then a pair of legs. Unlike the rest of us, who if need be, could crawl with only a heart beat to live the fullest life possible. If your foul mouth is representing some kind personal experience, i doubt your imparement is physical. How do you know who has legs here?

  4. mikelong411 says:

@topjonn don’t you need your legs to crawl? fuckin idiot.

  5. mikelong411 says:

@Kellyn180 you’re an idiot. anything that can get us standing and moving without a wheelchair is awesome and in five years this thing will make us walk just as normal as possible.

For all the people bashing this, it’s a good first step. The first prosthetic limbs were not so practical either, but now people can live without most people even noticing them.

Stem cells only work when a nerve needs to be repaired. If its a genetic problem stem cells are no good. I’d like one. But a faster one!

  19. a7green says:

……. I going to buy one, just to crush cans with it.

    well this is a start… i think…

  21. knivesron says:

thats cool i feel good fror the disabled who get to use them. but i have to argree with opitimus, that stem cells will do a better job. infact i think that biology will do the better job not just through the use of stem cells but a whole lot more.
thank fuck we dont live in a time where ppl would have left disabled ppl to defend on their own cause they thought it was god punishing them
