Question: What should i expect from a orthopedic after dislocating my kneecap?
I dislocated my left kneecap on Friday night and it didn’t hurt but i was scared crying a little and shaking because well, seeing your knee shift to the other side doesn’t make you happy,
So i haven’t really felt pain and there is no swelling THANK God!,
the only time i felt like pain was during relocation, And the ambulance ride to the hospital.
and when i like move the whole leg with the brace kinda hurts the thigh area….
What should i expect from the orthopedic…?

They will probably review your xrays or take films if they decide they want to. Xrays can check the placement of your kneecap and shape of your groove. They will ask you how it happened, how it feels, and your history. They will probably do some hands on test to check for other damage and might push and pull around on your kneecap to check tilt and if it is unstable. They might evaluate you for factors that could make you more at risk for dislocating (your feet, your knee alignment, your hips, the groove in which your kneecap rides). If they feel that something else might have been damaged in your knee, they might order more testing such as a MRI. But, since you have no swelling or pain, they might not have you get a MRI to check for further damage as they are expensive and insurance companies sometimes fight them. They will probably tell you to keep wearing the immobilizer and use crutches to allow proper healing for at least a week.
You will definitely have a follow-up where you will progress to the more rehab stage of recovery. You will need to do physical therapy to regain stability of the knee and kneecap, flexibility, strength, etc.
The orthopedic, who is the bone and joint doctor, will explain more about the injury, the prognosis, and the treatment.
Good Luck
I’m surprised at how well your knee seems to be doing!
